December 9th is designated as the International Day of Veterinary Medicine. Generally speaking this day is reserved as a space where veterinary professionals can share some of the history of veterinary medicine and trace the route or how practices have changed and evolved to it’s present day form. This year WVC has decided to present a different side of veterinary medicine; one that grows more dire with each passing year. The state of mental and emotional health of veterinary care workers has been in sharp decline since well before the covid 19 pandemic but has been exacerbated by the ensuing anti-medicine culture left in the wake of online misinformation campaigns.

Because veterinary health care is still an uncommon career it’s no wonder that the vast majority of the population is often uninformed as to the difficulties and stressors of caring for living beings that can’t advocate for themselves. Thankfully we’re seeing the emergence of organizations like “Not One More Vet” (NOMV) who’s entire reason for being is:

” …helping veterinary professionals through peer-to-peer support, financial support grants, education presentations, and by collaborating with partner agencies to extend services to the veterinary community.”
